It is with deep regret that the Palmyra Fire Department announces the passing of Harold “Hap” Brightbill.
Hap joined the department on June 7, 1966, and dedicated over 59 years of faithful service to the citizens of Palmyra and the surrounding communities. Throughout his distinguished career, Hap served in numerous leadership positions, including Fire Chief from 1983 to 1987, as well as many other years as a chief officer.
Hap’s decades of commitment, leadership, and friendship have left a lasting impact on our department and community. His legacy of service and brotherhood will be remembered by all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

Yesterday, Palmyra Fire wrapped up our annual three day academy. This academy is not only a training opportunity for returning members, but also signifies the end of hundreds of hours of training and education, which once successfully completed along with required formal courses, allows newer members to earn their respective Engine Company and Truck Company Qualifications. Palmyra Fire prides ourselves in upholding a high training standard to serve our community to best of our ability while giving our members the knowledge and skills to operate effectively yet safely.
Congratulations to Live In Firefighters Ben Bistline, Daniel Mesko, Noah Bistline, and Phu Tran on earning their Engine fronts and to Live In Firefighter Dayne Braden on earning his Tower front.
